Bhalji Pendharkar (English: Bhalji Pendharkar, Birth: 1898 – Death: 28 November, 1994) was a famous film producer-director and screenwriter. He was honored with cinema’s highest award, Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1991. His full name was ‘Bhalchandra Gopal Pendharkar’.
The way Bhalchandra Gopal Pendharkar decorated Marathi films is amazing. Baburao, who made India’s first indigenous camera, gave voice to India’s first experimental film ‘Savkari Pash’ made in 1925 in 1936. He used reflector for the first time for the shooting of ‘Singhgarh’. Pendharkar was a gatekeeper at a cinema hall in Pune. Pendharkar, who was arrested for making ‘Vande Mataram Ashram’ in 1927, made his last film ‘Shabash Hearing’ at the age of 88.
