Ganganath Jha (English: Ganganath Jha, born: 25 December 1872 – death: 9 November 1941) was a great scholar of Sanskrit language. He has written original texts of high quality on philosophical subjects in Hindi, English and Maithili languages. Among his many monuments, ‘Ganganath Jha Research Institute’ of Allahabad University (established on November 17, 1943) is prominent.

Ganganath Jha was born in a village in Mithila (Bihar) in 1871 AD. He had received higher education in Sanskrit from two famous scholars of Kashi. He had also received western system of education from Queen’s College, Kashi. At the age of 18, you demonstrated your talent by writing a poetic book in Sanskrit. His biggest contribution has been the translation of important ancient Sanskrit texts into English. This important work of his gave an opportunity to Western scholars to become familiar with the ancient knowledge of India. After writing a dissertation on ‘Prabhakarmat’ of Purva Mimamsa, he taught Sanskrit in Allahabad University and then became the Principal of Banaras Sanskrit College. In 1923, he was made the Vice-Chancellor of Allahabad University, where he remained in this post till 1932. For some time you were also nominated as a member of the Provincial Legislative Council. You also presided over the ‘Hindi Sahitya Sammelan’. You died on November 17, 1941.
