Sahitya News Desk!! Kanhaiyalal Sethia (English: Kanhaiyalal Sethia; born- September 11, 1919, Churu, Rajasthan; death- November 11, 2008) was a famous Hindi and Rajasthani writer of modern times. His most famous poetic composition is ‘Pathal and Pithal’.[1] He had launched a tremendous campaign against feudalism in Rajasthan and made an important contribution in bringing the backward class forward. As a freedom fighter, social reformer, philosopher and poet and writer of national and international level, Kanhaiyalal Sethia had received many honours, awards and decorations. He has also been honored with ‘Padma Shri’ by the Government of India.
birth and education
Kanhaiyalal Sethia was born on September 11, 1919 at a place called Sujangarh in Churu district of Rajasthan. His father’s name was Chhaganmalji Sethia and mother was Manohari Devi. Kanhaiyalal ji’s primary education took place in Calcutta (present day Kolkata). Due to his involvement in the freedom struggle, his education was interrupted for some time, but later he completed his BA from Rajasthan University. Received a bachelor’s degree. Philosophy, politics and literature were his favorite subjects.
Marriage
In the year 1937, Kanhaiyalal Sethia ji got married to Dhapu Devi. They have two sons- Jaiprakash and Vinayprakash and a daughter Sampat Devi Dugad.

Kanhaiyalal Sethia’s overall Literature I have a sense of value. His personal thinking is realistic. He felt the truth closely. Kanhaiyalal ji till now Hindi in 18, Urdu 02 books have been published in Hindi and 14 books in Rajasthani. If the creative phase of Sethia ji is studied sequentially, then the beginning would be Rajasthani ‘Ramaniyan Ra Sorthan’ (Vikram era 1997). Apart from these, ‘Neemdo’ is a small booklet of Rajasthani. ‘Ira’ contains selected poems while ‘Sapt Kiran’ is a joint publication. Sethiyaji’s short works like ‘Param Veer Shaitan Singh’, ‘Magician Mao’, ‘Rakta Do’, ‘China Ki Lalkar’ etc. are also his. Apart from all this, many works of Kanhaiyalal Sethia are unpublished and are scattered in many different newspapers and magazines. Many of his works have been translated into different languages.

treason case
In the year 1942, when Mahatma Gandhi gave the call of ‘Do or Die’, Kanhaiyalal Sethia’s work ‘Agniveena’ was published, on which he was tried for treason in Bikaner state and later the Rajasthan government declared him a freedom fighter. Also honored as. Even after the death of Mahatma Gandhi, a work of Kanhaiyalal ji was published. It contains compositions related to the horrific and gruesome incidents that took place during the partition of the country. After this, the Hindi work ‘Pratibimb’ was published in 1962. Its English translation has also been published. Its foreword has been written by Harendranath Chattopadhyay.

1976 – On Rajasthani poetic work ‘Leeltans’, awarded as the best work of Rajasthani language by Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi.
1979 – Honored by the Rajasthani Society of Hyderabad for the struggle for the recognition of Mayad language. Inspired to keep Mayad language alive.
1981 – ‘Dr.’ Award by Folk Culture Research Institute, Churu for his excellent creations of Rajasthani. Awarded ‘Tessitori Memorial Gold Medal’.
1982 – Awarded with ‘Poonamchand Bhutodia Award’ for excellent literary creation by Vivek Institute, Kolkata.
1983 – Awarded with the title of ‘Sahitya Manishi’, the highest honor by Rajasthan Sahitya Academy, Udaipur. A special issue of ‘Madhumati’ monthly and a book on the poetic journey of Shri Sethia were also published.
1983 – Awarded with the title of ‘Sahitya Vachaspati’ by Hindi Sahitya Sammelan, Prayag.
