Umakant Malviya was born on August 2, 1931 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. He was educated at Prayag University. Apart from poetry, he has also written short poems, essays and children’s books. In the field of poetry, Malviya ji adopted the Navgeet genre. He was a major pioneer of the ‘Navgeet’ movement. He was of the opinion that in today’s era, the new song is fully capable of briefly expressing the intensity of emotions. His ‘new songs’ created a huge stir in many poetry conferences.
