Nityanand Swami (English: Nityanand Swami, born: 27 December 1927; died: 12 December, 2012) was the first Chief Minister of Uttarakhand and a veteran leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Born on 27 December 1927 in Narnaul, Haryana, Nityanand Swami spent most of his life in Dehradun. His father was posted at Forest Research Institute, Dehradun. He is married to Chandrakanta, they both have four daughters. Late Swami was a brilliant personality. This was the reason why he was elected President of DAV College in 1950. In the 50-60s, he was an active worker of Jan Sangh and was also the president of various labor unions. He made advocacy his profession. Initially he was associated with Congress and later joined BJP. Nityananda Swami has four daughters. Two daughters are married in the same house. These daughters live at a residence on Kanwali Road, Dehradun. Nityanand Swami also lived with his two daughters.

When Uttarakhand was separated from Uttar Pradesh on 9 November 2000, the Bharatiya Janata Party was in power at that time. Under the constitutional process, a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party was to be made the Chief Minister till the next elections. In this order, the name of Nityanand Swami was at the top. Nityanand Swami became the first nominated Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. He was the Chief Minister of the state from 9 November 2000 to 29 October 2001. His total tenure was 11 months and 20 days. Before this, he was the Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Council in Uttar Pradesh in the year 1991 and became the Chairman in 1992. At the beginning of his active political career, late Swami was elected member of the Legislative Council from Dehradun assembly constituency in the undivided Uttar Pradesh state in the year 1969.

He breathed his last on Wednesday, December 12, 2012, at 9:35 am at CMI Hospital, Dehradun. He was 84 years old. He was admitted to CMI Hospital after his health suddenly deteriorated on Tuesday night. Where he was put on ventilator for medical examination. He died on Wednesday morning.
