History News Desk !! Damitri Ivanovich Mendleev (English: Dmitri Ivanovich Mendelav, born- 8 February, 1834, Tobolosk, Siberia; death- 2 February, 1907, St. Petersburg) was a Russian Chemical Scientist. He is known for preparing the modern periodic table of the best elements. Damitri Mendlive made his major contribution in many other fields, such as Metrology (study of measurement), agriculture and industry. Mendleev wrote a book called ‘Chemistry Siddhant’ in 1905 AD, which was translated into all major languages. He also worked on geology, geophysics etc. He gave his country invaluable suggestions on many things related to industry and chemistry.

Introduction

Periodic table ie periodic table is considered to be a huge stop in the journey of chemistry. This table, which came into existence in 1869, did a great job of bringing the study of chemical elements happening around the world to the ease. Only after this, a collective study of the properties of all chemical elements was possible. Today, early school courses of science are started from this. The story of the life of Russian scientist Damitri Mendalive, who carried out this exploits, is no less than a wonder.

Birth

Damitri Mendliv was born on 8 February 1834 in a city Tobolosk, a far west of Siberia. His father was the headmaster of a local school while his mother Maria is a normal housewife. It was a very large family with many children. Some sources say that Damitri Mendleev had fourteen siblings and some according to some this number was seventeen. On this one thing, all the sources are unanimous that Damitri was the smallest member of the Mendlive family. It was a educated and well-rich family.

Economic problems

Shortly after the birth of Damitri Mendleev, his father became blind due to the deteriorating cataract. When he had to eat at home, his mother started working outside. She gradually came to the post of manager after starting working in a small position in a successful glass making factory in a nearby city of Aremjianka. Damitri Mendlive used to see his mother working in the factory where sand and lime stones were made in a fire and made colorful glass. Possibly this attractive process of conversion of things may have started pulling the mind of the child Damitri towards chemistry. In the years after his life, a picture of Damitri Mendalive glass was always hanging on his office wall.

Moscow arrival

The house was going well when this factory caught fire in the year 1848. The family again stood at the mouth of poverty. Damitri Mendleev’s mother was a very brave and intelligent woman. He had noticed from the beginning that his youngest son was topped among all siblings in terms of reading and writing. So she was committed to provide good education to her child at any cost. This strong woman named Maria Mendaliva taught her youngest son at home till the age of seven years and started saving a little money from the beginning for her education. There were two ways in front of them- either find work at some other place or do something for the talent of Damitri Mendlive. He chose another route and decided to go to Moscow, some two and a half thousand miles from his city. Except Damitri and a daughter Elizabeth, the rest of their children stood on their feet, so they did not have any difficulty in taking this decision as ten years ago.

Struggle for education

This is an incident of 1849 and trains did not start running in those days. It can imagine that sometimes sledgadi with her two children, sometimes asking for a lift from horses, sometimes walking in the deserted expansion of the Ural mountain, the desire to teach her son within that mother who is carrying her life with her life. How much would it be burning. Traveling up to Moscow settled in four to six weeks. On reaching Moscow University, he was deeply disappointed, when Damitri Mendlive did not get admission and was given the opinion of going back to Tobolosk and studying in the local university there. Maria’s brother lived in Moscow. He also tried to help in getting admission but nothing could happen.

Maria Mendaliva was not going to give up. He was to send his son to teach in a great university at any cost. The next option after Moscow was the university of St. Petersburg, about seven hundred kilometers from there. After staying in Moscow for a few months, soon a small group of mother and her two children went out on another and the same difficult journey. He was also disappointed in St. Petersburg. The great university there also did not give admission to Damitri Mendlive. Now there were very few options left. So somehow, by compromising, Maria got her son enrolled in the head teacher-training institute, where Ivan Pavlovich Mendlive, the father of Damitri Mendleev, had also studied. For the last few years, this institute had started focusing on teacher-training and paying out on independent research and besides the institute’s building was in the campus of St. Petersburg University. Maria gave Damitri Mendleev the subjects of mathematics and physics. Big scientists of the country and the world used to come here to give speeches. This atmosphere was very suitable according to the talent of Damitri Mendalive and continued to improve it.

Mother and sister died

The last two-three years Maria had been very difficult and effort in the life of Mendaliva. His body had to bear the brunt of this and died of TB in September 1850. Damitri Mendlive got admission to the Teacher-Direction Institute in the same year. A few months later, Damitri’s sister Elizabeth also died of the same disease. Damitri Mendleev himself was also infected with TB and the doctor even said that he was less expected to escape but he survived in a miraculous manner. This double attack broke them, but they had to fulfill the duty of being their mother’s son.

Doctor degree in chemicals

Damitri Mendleev continued studying in the same institute and earned a doctorate degree in chemistry. While staying there, he got to hear the speech of the famous scientist Cannizers regarding the weight of the atom, which inspired him to work on the hypothesis of the periodic table. Prior to him, England scientist John Newlands did some work in this subject; But there were very serious faults in it. How Damitri Mendleev achieved one of the biggest achievements of modern science in 1869 is a different big story. At the moment, it should not be forgotten that if there was no courage and strong will in his mother, then what could be said about Damitri Mendlive.

Book publication and role

Damitri Mendalive’s mother, who herself belongs to a educated family, taught all her children to respect the words written on paper since childhood. Mendleev realized what his mother did for him. When he was a professor at the same St. Petersburg University in 1887, who refused to enroll him, he published his first big book. In the role of this book, he wrote-

“This research is dedicated to the memory of a mother by her youngest child. She used to teach her from her work while running a factory. She used to teach a lesson by giving examples, improved with love and to teach her science to science. She got out of Siberia on a long journey. She was found to be the last and she was dying. Keep searching for scientific truth. “

Damitri Mendlive, known from far away due to his random hair and beard throughout his lifetime, was known for the concession and quality of his work. Today, chemical researches cannot be imagined without a periodic table. The spirit of Damitri Mendleev’s great mother can be imagined, who faced every little and big difficulty and protected her son’s talent. He even gave his life, but ensured that the talent could carry out the tasks she worthy.
