Dr. Atmaram (English: Dr. Atmaram, born- October 12, 1908, Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh; Death- 6 February, 1983) was an Indian scientist in favor of economical scientific technology, who had commendable contribution in the construction of glasses. . In his memory, ‘Atmaram Award’ is given by ‘Central Hindi Institute’. Atmaram ji used to insist on giving science education in his language. There was so much simplicity in his life that people used to call him a Gandhian scientist with respect.

Birth and education

Dr. Atmaram, Director General of famous scientist and industrial research, was born on 12 October 1908 in Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh state at a place called Panana. Atmaram ji gave B.Sc under his education. Degree of Kanpur and M.Sc. And Ph.D. From Allahabad.

Research work

After receiving science education, Atmaram started research on glass and seromics. Optical glass is extremely pure glass and is used to make microscopes and variety of military equipment. In India, this glass was imported from Germany. It used to spend a large amount of foreign exchange per year. Dr. Atmaram invented the method of making such glass in India by researching with great dedication. This not only increased the self -sufficiency of the country but also increased its honor in the industrial sector. In 1967, Atmaram Ji was made the Director General of the country’s major scientific institution ‘Scientific and Industrial Research Council’.

In favor of hindi

Dr. Atmaram used to insist on giving science education in his language. He himself wrote- “I did not understand the chemistry due to the less practice of English in Vidyarthi life, but once Dr. Phool Dev Sahai Verma explained the basics of chemistry in Hindi, my car started running.” The Gandhian scientist gave him the title of ‘Doctor of Technology’ by the Technological Institute of Soviet Russia in view of his research. Dr. Atmaram had so much simplicity in his life that people used to call him ‘Gandhian scientists’ with respect.

The ‘Atmaram Award’ is a prestigious honor of India, which is given in memory of the famous scientist Atmaram. The award is one of the major awards offered by ‘Central Hindi Institute’. This award is provided for the remarkable contribution of a person in the field of scientific and technical literature and equipment development. The ‘Atmaram Award’ is presented by the ‘Ministry of Human Resource Development’, by the ‘Central Hindi Institute’ of the Government of India. Under this award, an amount of one lakh rupees is given to the honored person as his honor. The award is presented to two people every year.
