Dr. Sukama Acharya (English: Dr. Sukama Acharya, born October 1, 1961) is the principal of ‘Vishvawara Kanya Gurukul’ of Roorkee village in Rohtak district. He has been awarded the Padma Shri, 2023 by President Draupadi Murmu on behalf of the Government of India. Dr. Sukma Acharya has been given this honor for her contribution in the field of women empowerment and education.
Dr. Sukma Acharya was born on October 1, 1961 in Akpur village of Jhajjar. His mother’s name is Veda Kaur and father’s name is Rajendra Dev Singh.
Dr. Sukma Acharya’s list of educational achievements is quite long. This includes studies from Shastri to PhD. Shastri from Shrimad Dayanandharth Vidyapeeth, Jhajjar in the year 1978, Vyakarancharya in 1980, Post Graduate in Sanskrit from Gurukul Kangri University, Haridwar in 1982, Vodacharya from Shrimad Dayanandharth Vidyapeeth, Jhajjar in 1984, Vodacharya from Gurukul Kangri University, Haridwar in 1987. Vedic Indra God Maharishi Dayanand Apart from doing PhD in the perspective of Vedabhashya, in the year 1999 he published Kusumalata Arya Pratishthan, Sahibabad.[1]
After receiving higher education in the ancient Gurukul tradition, Dr. Sukma Acharya took initiation into celibacy and is educating and sanskar-wise girls through the Gurukul method. Their hard-working, philanthropic and dutiful life, their simplicity, tolerance, humility, generosity, dedication, excellent teaching and art qualities make them distinguished as high personalities. Have taken a sacred resolve to propagate Indian culture, spread the ancient tradition of Gurukul system, upliftment of women and fulfill the ideal of sacrificial life.
In the year 1988, Dr. Sukma Acharya established Shrimad Dayanand Kanya Gurukul Mahavidyalaya Chotipura along with Acharya Dr. Sumedha in Amroha district of Uttar Pradesh. It operated till the year 2017 (30 years). In the year 2018, Vishwavara Kanya Gurukul was started in Roorkee, Rohtak.
Dr. Sukma Acharya gave the message to the young generation that there is a mixture of good and bad in everyone. Youngsters have the power to improve if they find out what is bad. Youth has that strength. By the time the young man comes to know later, his time has already passed. Therefore, youth should emulate their parents and role models in the society.
