Dilip Kumar, famous as the Tragedy King in Hindi cinema, got his first opportunity to work in films in the year 1944 with the film ‘Jwar Bhata’ made under the production house Bombay Talkies. For this film, he changed his name from Yusuf to Dilip Kumar. Before becoming an actor, he used to work in the British Army canteen. Here they used to make sandwiches, which the British liked very much.

Dilip Kumar had to do this work because he and his entire family came to India after the partition of India and Pakistan. He had 12 brothers and sisters. Now in such a situation it was becoming very difficult to arrange food for the family. This was the reason why he took a job in the British Army canteen. Everything was going well, then one day during a program he was arrested for supporting India’s freedom struggle and raising slogans. He even had to spend a few days in jail.
