Assam News Desk !!! Himanta Biswa Sarma (English: Himanta Biswa Sarma, born- 1 February, 1969) is the 15th Chief Minister of the Indian state of Assam. He has served from 2001 to 2015 as an Legislative Assembly from the Jalakabari constituency in Assam and as a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party from May 2016. Himanta Biswa Sarma won the 2016 Assam Assembly election and became the cabinet minister of Assam. Himanta Biswa Sarma is currently the Chief Minister of Assam after the BJP government came to Assam in the year 2021. He was sworn in as Chief Minister on 10 May 2021.
Introduction
Himanta Biswa Sarma was born on 1 February 1969. His father’s name is Kailash Nath Sarma and mother’s name is Mrinalini Devi. Himanta Biswa Sarma did his early studies from Kamrup Academy School in Guwahati. He then studied LLB from Government Law College and then earned a PhD from Guwahati University. He also practiced law in the Guwahati High Court between 1996 and 2001. Himanta Biswa Sarma first contested from Jalukbari in Guwahati in 2001. He defeated Bhrigu Kumar Fukan, the leader of the Assam Gana Parishad here and since then Sarma has been winning this seat.
Himanta Biswa Sarma was earlier in the Congress party but after some differences, he left the party in 2015 and joined the BJP. It was reported that he took this step after political differences with former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.
Chief Minister of Assam
Himanta Biswa Sarma was sworn in as the 15th Chief Minister of Assam on 10 May 2021. BJP National President J.K. Along with P. Nadda, many other leaders were also present. Himanta Biswa Sarma was administered the oath by Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi. The BJP won the second consecutive time in the Assam election results on 2 May. Along with Himanta Biswa Sarma, 13 other MLAs also took oath of ministers. On May 9, 2021, North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma was unanimously elected leader of the BJP Legislature Party.
BJP Chief J. Along with P. Nadda, Chief Ministers of Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura and Meghalaya attended the swearing -in ceremony. Apart from this, Union Minister Jitendra Singh and former Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal were also present at the function.
