But there are only a few actors who earn the title of legend after a long journey of three decades. Govind Namdev is one such actor who has his own identity as one of the most experienced actors in the industry. In his 30-year acting career, he did many films, played many great characters. But even today no one can match his charm as a villain. Govind Namdev, who started his film career with David Dhawan’s film Shola Aur Shabnam, is celebrating his 68th birthday today, know some special things related to him here.
He was a topper in school and now he is a topper in films
Hailing from Sagar in Madhya Pradesh, Govind used to sing Ramayan and play Manjira with his father Shriram Prasad in the 7th class. After which he decided to come to Delhi in the 8th class and after topping the school, he completed the rest of his studies with a scholarship. Govind Namdev, a pass out from Delhi’s National School of Drama, lived there for 11 years and learned the tricks of acting. He honed his acting by doing plays for years. And earned fame by doing plays in Poland, London, Germany and many other countries. After which he turned to Mumbai and never looked back.
This is how the idea of acting came
Govind says that he never thought that he would become an actor. However, he always wanted to do something different, something special. So that he and his family could get name and recognition. He says, “While studying in Delhi, I used to read biographies of many big personalities. In school, I used to perform well in every field, be it studies, writing poetry, singing or drama and speech. Just because of this, I was made the head of the school’s cultural committee. I got a lot of advice as well as a lot of appreciation, one of which was to try my luck in the path of acting. And following this advice, I took admission in NSD.”
This is how I got my first film
Govind says that after doing plays at different places for such a long time, many people were already familiar with his acting and talent. His face and voice were enough to convince anyone that he is a very accomplished artist. In the year 1990, Govind got Paresh Rawal, Ketan Mehta’s film ‘Sardar Patel’. During the same time, he met Pahlaj Nihalani and David Dhawan, they were making Shola Aur Shabnam. After listening to the story, everyone felt that Govind was the perfect choice for the film. And thus Shola Aur Shabnam released in the year 1992 became his first film and then Sardar Patel was released in the year 1994.

Govinda has been an important part of more than 100 great films. Even after so many years, he has made a place in everyone’s heart with his acting. The characters played by Govinda in blockbuster films like Oh My God, Singham, Bhool Bhulaiya 2, Wanted, Ramaiya Vastavaiya, Boss, Shadi Mein Zaroor Aana, Prem Granth, Virasat, Satya, Sarfarosh, Pyaasa are always in the news. And are always appreciated. With changing times, Bollywood has also changed in many ways. Nowadays people are turning more towards OTT platforms than films. On which Govinda says, “I am satisfied with my journey. In all these years, I got a chance to work with many great actors and directors. And I hope to perform well in the future too. ” Govinda will be seen in films like Oh My God 2, Woh Ladki Hai Kahan? This year, along with films like Alien Frank, he will also be seen in a web series called Alien Frank in which he is playing the role of Adolf Hitler.
