History News Desk !!! Indira Raje or ‘Indira Devi’ (English: Indira Raje, born- 19 February, 1892; died- 6 September, 1968) was the princess of Baroda. Her father was Sayaji Gaekwad and mother was Maharani Chimni Bai. Indira Raje was the beautiful queen of the country. She was also called Indira Devi. She was born in the famous royal family of Baroda. Her beauty and style are still discussed and many of her stories are still told. She was born on 19 February 1892 in Baroda. She died on 06 September 1968 in Mumbai at the age of 76. It is said that she was ahead of her time in every way. She proved this thing continuously.
She was amazingly beautiful and very fashionable. She ordered a famous Italian shoemaker to make 100 pairs of shoes, some of which were studded with diamonds and precious stones. Maharani Indira Devi was so beautiful that she was considered the most beautiful woman in the country in her time. She was the mother of Maharani Gayatri Devi of Jaipur. The queen was very fond of dressing up. She was constantly in touch with foreign fashion. The queen was addicted to gambling. Many Hollywood stars were good friends of the queen, many of whom attended her parties. She ordered 100 pairs of shoes to be made from an Italian company. Its name was Salvatore Ferragamo. This company was considered the most famous designer company of the 20th century. Even today, this company has luxury showrooms all over the world.
Indira Raje was married to Prince Jitendra Narayan of Cooch Behar, whom she met in the Delhi court. To marry Jitendra Narayan, she broke her engagement with Maharaj Madhavrao Scindia of Gwalior. She took this bold step at the age of 18.[1]
After the engagement was broken, Indira Raje’s parents allowed her to leave India and marry Jitendra Narayan in London. Indira Raje faced many tragedies in her life. Maharani Gayatri Devi was his daughter. Indira Raje spent the last days of her life in Mumbai. Indira Raje died on 6 September 1968.
