In 1935, Gandhiji established the ‘All India Village Industries Association’. For this new association, Jamnalal Bajaj happily handed over his huge garden, which Gandhiji named ‘Magnadi’ after the late Maganlal Gandhi. In 1936, immediately after the ‘All India Hindi Sahitya Sammelan’, Nagpur, Jamnalal ji established the ‘Rashtra Bhasha Prachar Samiti’ in Wardha and collected funds for the promotion of Hindi in the western and eastern provinces of the country. Shortly after this, he was elected President of ‘Hindi Sahitya Sammelan’, Madras. He used this position to give a systematic form to the national language movement. Apart from this, Jamnalal ji got engaged with all his heart and soul in the work of Hindu-Muslim unity and untouchability. In fact, he was the first leader of the country, who opened the doors of his ancestors’ Lakshminarayan Temple in Wardha for the untouchables in 1928 itself. Jamnalal Bajaj and his wife Janaki Devi were very attentive to the preferences of the guests.

Jamnalal Bajaj’s last work was the best in terms of sacrifice. He had chosen for himself the task of protecting the country’s livestock and considered the cow as its symbol. He engaged in this work with such concentration and dedication that it had no example. His biggest work was cow service. Actually, this work was going on earlier also, but at a slow pace. He was not satisfied with this. He wanted to drive it at high speed and drove it so fast that he himself died. If we want to keep the cow alive then we will also have to lose our lives in its service. Jamnalal ji not only provided financial assistance to the workers, he also made arrangements for the education of their children. If he fell ill, he would also get his treatment done. He also kept a list of children of such people and got them married at very low cost. For this reason Gandhiji also affectionately called him “Shadi Kaka”.

This is your patriotism or It will not come in the way of spiritual progress.” In 1920, when the resolution of non-cooperation was passed in the Calcutta session, Jamnalal ji returned his post.

Jaipur Satyagraha

In 1931, due to the efforts of Jamnalal ji, ‘Jaipur Rajya Praja Mandal’ was established. This board started working actively in 1936. On March 30, 1938, Jaipur State suddenly issued an order that no public institution could be established in Jaipur State without the permission of the Government. The main aim of this order was to sabotage the activities of Praja Mandal. The annual convention of the Mandal was announced on 8th May and 9th May under the chairmanship of Jamnalal ji. In those days, Bicamp St. John, an English Dewan of Jaipur did not like the popularity of Jamnalal. On July 4, 1938, things escalated and the Jaipur police opened fire on a train. In which many Rajputs died and were injured. The Rajputs and Jats of Sikar got furious and it seemed that rivers of blood would start flowing. When Jamnalal Bajaj heard the news of this shameful situation, he wanted a reconciliation between the two. Sikar was the birthplace of Jamnalal ji. He advised people to remain non-violent instead of violence. On December 30, 1938, Jamnalalji Sawai was waiting for another train at Madhopur station to take stock of the famine spread in Jaipur state and to do relief work. Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police F. S. Young served them with an order stating that their entry and activities in the state constituted a danger of a breach of the peace. Therefore they cannot enter the state limits. But this prohibition opened the eyes of the people. Due to this, Satyagraha was carried out under the leadership of Jamnalal ji.
