Jasmine Lamboria (English: Jasmine Lamboria, born – 30 August 2001, Bhiwani, Haryana) is a female boxer from India. She has won a bronze medal for the country in the Commonwealth Games, 2022 held in Birmingham, England. She won this medal in the women’s 60 kg (light weight) category. Jasmine Lamboria, who performed brilliantly throughout the tournament, was defeated by England’s Gemma Paige Richardson in the semi-final bout by a 4-1 split decision.
Jasmine Lamboria was born on August 30, 2001 in Bhiwani, Haryana. Father Jaiveer Lamboria works as a home guard and mother Joginder Kaur is a housewife. Jasmine’s uncles Sandeep and Parvinder, both are boxers. Some relatives also used to wrestle. Bhiwani is also called ‘Little Cuba’, because this city of Haryana has given many boxers to India. Generally, being born in a family of sportspersons and in such a city means that there will be a sports environment. Everyone is encouraged to play sports, but this did not happen with Jasmine Lamboria.[1]
Due to the sports environment at home, Jasmine Lamboria was interested in playing athletics and cricket from the very beginning. When she decided to pursue boxing, her father refused to let her play citing the elders of the house and society as the reason. Her father said, ‘Choose some other sport!’ But Jasmine Lamboria did not agree, so she talked to her uncles. Both of them convinced her father. Then her uncle Sandeep took her out of Bhiwani for training.
Now the problem was that no female boxer was found to train with Jasmine Lamboria. So Sandeep brought her back and got her to join Lamboria Boxing Academy. But the same problem was there here as well. All the players were boys. Then Jasmine Lamboria started training with boys. In an interview Jasmine Lamboria told that in the initial 2-3 years she could hardly stand against the boys, but by facing heavy punches her defense became very strong. Gradually the attack also became good and in a few days she came to the level-playing field. Then she never looked back.
Later, Jasmine Lamboria went on winning tournaments one after the other. In 2019, Jasmine was 18 years old. She had won many domestic championships, but had not played with any big player. This time she was facing Manisha Moun, who won bronze medal in Asian Championship. In this match, Jasmine Lamboria defeated Manisha. This was a victory that no one had predicted. Then in May of the same year, in the trials for IBA World Championship, Jasmine Lamboria defeated former World Championship bronze medalist Simranjit Kaur. In a short time, she became famous for defeating two good players.[1]
Jasmine Lamboria once again defeated Simranjit in the Commonwealth Games qualification. In the early days of the senior level, Jasmine used to play in the 57 kg weight category. She also won many medals in this category. Like silver in Spain and bronze medal in the Asian Boxing Championship held in Dubai. But then she got Covid, due to which she became weak and at the time of recovery her weight became 63 kg. Now she plays in the 60 kg weight category.
