He was born on January 17, 1945 in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. Father Jan Nisar Akhtar was a famous progressive poet and mother Safia Akhtar was a famous Urdu writer and teacher. His childhood name was ‘Jadoo Javed Akhtar’. Javed Akhtar had a deep relationship with poetry since childhood. Poetry gatherings were organized at his house, which he used to listen to with great interest. Javed Akhtar had seen the ups and downs of life very closely, hence the entanglements of life can be felt very strongly in his poetry.
Education
Shortly after the birth of Javed Akhtar, his family came to Lucknow. Javed Akhtar completed his primary education from Colvin Talukedar College, Lucknow. After staying in Lucknow for some time, Javed Akhtar came to Aligarh, where he started living with his aunt. Javed Akhtar was deeply shocked in the year 1952 when his mother died. Javed Akhtar completed his matriculation from Aligarh Muslim University. After this, he completed his graduation from “Safia College” in Bhopal, but after a few days, he did not feel like going there and he came to Mumbai in the year 1964 to give a new shape to his dreams.

During this period, he wrote dialogues for many films, but none of these films were successful at the box office. Fate changed with chain
In the year 1973, he met producer-director Prakash Mehra for whom he wrote dialogues for the film “Zanjeer”. The dialogues written by him in the film Zanjeer became so popular among the audience that they became famous across the country. Along with this, the film industry got a super star in the form of Amitabh Bachchan through the film. After this, Javed Akhtar touched new heights of success and wrote dialogues for many films. Javed Akhtar played an important role in making famous producer-director Ramesh Sippy’s films successful by writing tremendous dialogues for his films. Most of Ramesh Sippy’s films are still remembered because of his dialogues. These films include particularly successful films like “Sita Aur Geeta” (1972), “Sholay” (1975), “Shaan” (1980), “Shakti” (1982) and “Sagar” (1985). Apart from Ramesh Sippy, his favorite producer-directors include Yash Chopra and Prakash Mehra.[1]
Salim-Javed
In Mumbai, he met Salim Khan, who was trying to make his mark as a dialogue writer in the film industry. After this Javed Akhtar and Salim Khan started working jointly. After the success of the film “Andaz” released in 1970, Javed Akhtar was successful in making his mark in the film industry as a dialogue writer to some extent. After the success of the film “Andaz”, Javed Akhtar and Salim Khan started getting offers for many good films. These films include films like “Haathi Mere Saathi”, “Sita Aur Geeta”, “Zanjeer” and “Yaadon Ki Baaraat”. The superhit pair of Salim-Javed separated in the year 1980. Marriage
He met Honey Irani during the making of the film “Sita Aur Geeta” and soon Javed Akhtar married Honey Irani. He had two children Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar from Honey Irani, but he divorced Honey Irani and married famous actress Shabana Azmi in 1984.
