Jitendra Abhisheki (English: Jitendra Abhisheki, born- September 21, 1929; death- November 7, 1998) was a famous Indian classical singer, composer, scholar of devotional music and Indian classical music. He is known as the savior of Marathi theater music (1960s).
Jeetendra Abhisheki was born on September 21, 1929 in a village called Mangeshi in Goa. His family was traditionally associated with the Mangeshi temple of Shiva. His father Balwantrao was a disciple of his half-brother Dinanath Mangeshkar and a priest and kirtankar of the Mangeshi temple.
After obtaining a degree in Sanskrit literature, Jeetendra Abhisheki joined ‘All India Radio’ Mumbai for a brief period, where he came in contact with many musicians. He got the opportunity to showcase his musical talent by composing his compositions for radio programmes. Meanwhile, he received a scholarship from the Government of India for advanced training in the field of music. Learned Hindustani classical music under Ustad Azmat Hussain Khan. Jitendra Abhisheki developed a distinctive style of khayal singing, which is today known as ‘Abhishekhi Gharana’.
