Kapil Kapoor (English: Kapil Kapoor, born 17 November 1940) is an Indian linguist, literary scholar and former Professor of English at the English Center (since 1996). He was nominated as Concurrent Professor at the Special Center for Sanskrit Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi in the year 2000. Kapil Kapoor has guided 42 PhDs and 30 MPhils. Former Professor of JNU for his contribution in the field of education and literature. Vice Chancellor Kapil Kapoor has been awarded Padma Bhushan, 2023.

Kapil Kapoor has discharged many responsibilities in JNU, from Professor, Dean, Pro-Vice Chancellor. He has been associated with teaching for the last 42 years. He is a scholar of language and literature. He retired from JNU in the year 2005. He was born on 17 November 1940. He has done many notable works in the field of education.[1]

Kapil Kapoor is the chief editor of ‘Encyclopedia of Hinduism’ (in English), published in eleven parts in the year 2012. In his teaching and research, he has done remarkable work mainly on literary and linguistic theory (Indian and Western), language philosophy, public life of 19th century Britain, literature and thought, Indian intellectual traditions etc. He is also a representative scholar of the Indian intellectual tradition.

From 1996 to 1999, Kapil Kapoor was the Dean of the Department of Language, Literature and Cultural Studies of JNU. After this, he remained a lecturer from 1999 to 2002. He also held the post of Vice Chancellor for some time. Under his guidance, 41 researchers have received the degree of PhD and 36 have received the degree of M-Phil. Many of his books have also been published. Even after retirement, he remains continuously engaged in writing work. Many of his new books are also coming.
