Sports News Desk !!! Kidambi Srikanth (English: Kidambi Srikant, born 7 February, 1993, Andhra Pradesh) is a badminton player of India. He has achieved many great successes in badminton. In the Commonwealth Games 2022 held in Birmingham, England, Kidambi Srikanth won a bronze medal for the country by defeating Jia Heng Teh of Singapore. Earlier, he continued his brilliant performance and reversed in the final of the men’s singles category of the Australia Open Super Series on June 25, 2017, when he made the Chen Long of the current Olympic and World Champion China 22-20, 21- Defeated 16 and captured the title. He also won the Indonesia Open Super Series title a few days ago. He is the first Indian badminton player to show this feat. On March 21, 2018, the then President Ram Nath Kovind honored him with ‘Padma Shri’.
Introduction
Kidambi Srikanth was born on 7 February 1993 in Guntur in the state of Andhra Pradesh. His father’s name KVS Krishna and mother’s name is Radha. His elder brother Nanda Gopal himself is also a badminton player. Kidambi Srikanth chose Badminton with his elder brother Nandagopal in 2000, when both of them attended the newly constructed municipal stadium in Guntur. Nandagopal’s talent was seen by the Sports Authority of Sports and went to Visakhapatnam for training at the Sports Academy of Andhra Pradesh. In 2001, Kidambi Srikanth also joined the academy and started living in a room with his brother in the academy of the hostel.[1]
Kidambi Srikanth was very lazy before joining the Sports Academy of Andhra Pradesh. However, he worked hard to join the academy. Srikanth did not take badminton seriously until Gopichand Badminton Academy was involved in 2008. He and Nandagopal joined the Badminton Academy run by former Indian badminton player and national coach Pullela Gopichand.
Career
Kidambi Srikanth started taking badminton seriously after Gopichand went to Badminton Academy. Pullela Gopichand believed that he had talent but there was a lack of focus. Gopichand directed him to strengthen his attention on the game. After receiving an international break in 2011, he won his first junior single title and doubles title at the All India Junior International Badminton Championships in Pune. A year later he won his first singles title at the Maldives International Challenge.
In 2013, he defeated Parupalli Kashyap and won his first single national title at the Senior National Badminton Championships. In January 2014, he appeared as runners up in Indian Grand Prix Gold. In 2015, he was defeated by Parupalli Kashyap in the final at Syed Modi International. Kidambi Srikanth won the tournament title after a year. In 2016, he won the men’s singles and two gold medals in the team at the South Asian Games in Guwahati. That year the Indian men’s team settled for bronze after defeat in the semi -finals but Srikanth remained unbeaten in the Asian team championship in Hyderabad.[1]
At the 2019 South Asian Games, he won a gold medal in the men’s team in Kathmandu, Nepal. In 2020, Kidambi Srikanth and his team won the bronze medal again at the Asian Team Championship in Manila.
Performance in the year 2022
Kidambi Srikanth became the first Indian singles player to enter the World Badminton Championship, 2021, defeating Lakshya Lakshya Sen. Kidambi Srikanth traveled to the semi -finals in the Swiss Badminton Open, 2022 as well. Srikanth reached the semi -finals of Mains Single Class Korea Open, 2022 held this year and lost in a tough match at Indonesia’s Jonathan Christie.
Commonwealth Games 2022
Indian players performed brilliantly on the 10th day of Commonwealth Games 2022. India also got medals in badminton after athletics, boxing, table tennis and squash. In badminton, Kidambi Srikanth of India won the bronze medal by defeating Jia Heng Teh of Singapore. In the bronze medal match, Kidambi Srikanth defeated Jia Heng Teh of Singapore 21-15 21-17 in straight sets. Srikanth was a bronze medal contender after defeat in the semi -finals, but had to sweat a lot to win the medal. Jia Heng Teh of Singapore showed amazing passion even after being injured. Kidambi Srikanth embraced the 87th position in the ranking after winning the match 21-15, 21-18, honoring the player’s courage.
Thomas Cup, 2022
In May 2022, the Indian badminton team performed well at the Thomas Cup held in Bangkok, Thailand and defeated the 14 -time world -winning team Indonesia and won the cup. Apart from Kidambi Srikanth, H.S. Prannoy, Lakshya Sen, Satvik Sairaj Rankireddy, Chirag Shetty were part of this team. By winning all their five matches, the Indian team won the final by defeating Indonesia 3–0 in their name. Performance in the year 2021
PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikant played together in the 2020 doubles match, but both were out with defeat in the initial matches in the 2020 doubles match.
