Kishore Kumar (English: Kishore Kumar, born: August 4, 1929, Madhya Pradesh; death: October 13, 1987) was an immortal singer, actor, director, producer and lyricist in the history of Indian music. Kishore Kumar’s real name was ‘Abhas Kumar Ganguly’.

Kishore Kumar was born on August 4, 1929 in a Bengali family in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh. Kishore Kumar was a unique personality. He has a huge contribution towards Hindi cinema. Kishore Kumar’s father Kunjilal was a well-known lawyer of Khandwa city. Kishore was the youngest among four siblings. Being the youngest, Kishore Kumar got everyone’s love. This desire made Kishore so cheerful that smiling in every situation became the style of his life. His eldest brother Ashok Kumar was established as an actor in Mumbai and his other brother Anup Kumar was also working in films. Kishore Kumar wanted to become a musician since childhood, he did not want to become a lawyer like his father. Kishore Kumar acted in 81 films and also directed 18 films. The character of a cool maula man that he played in the film ‘Padosan’, he continued to play the same character in his real life throughout his life. The credit for bringing electric music in Hindi cinema goes to Kishore Kumar.[1]
Kishore Kumar has received eight Filmfare Awards. Kishore Kumar was given the first Filmfare Award in 1969 for the song ‘Roop Tera Mastana Pyar Mera Deewana’ from the film ‘Aradhana’. The specialty of Kishore Kumar was that he lent his voice to everyone from Dev Anand to Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan and his voice impressed all these actors as if Kishore himself was present inside them.
Along with the old generation, the new generation is also crazy about Kishore Kumar’s voice. Kishore was as great an artist as he was an equally interesting human being. Many of his stories are popular in the Hindi cinema world.
Kishore Kumar had the knack of saying strange things in his witty style. Especially Kishore Kumar had mastered the art of singing the lines of songs from right to left. When asked his name he used to say – Rashoki Ramaku.
Kishore Kumar has played an important role in giving the status of superhero to three heroes of Hindi cinema. Due to the magic of his voice, Dev Anand was called an evergreen hero. Rajesh Khanna started being called a super star and Amitabh Bachchan became a megastar.
Had achieved mastery in psycho-music. Kishore Kumar used to dance to the tunes of songs after listening to them on the radio. Kishore Kumar used to collect a book of film songs and sing them by heart. When Kishore Kumar used to sing songs along with acting to the guests coming to his house, he would also ask for some reward in the form of ‘entertainment tax’.
One day musician Sachin Dev Varman suddenly arrived at Ashok Kumar’s house. When he heard the sound of singing in the living room, he asked Dada Muni, ‘Who is singing?’ Ashok Kumar replied- ‘He is my younger brother’. His bath is not complete until he sings a song. Sachin-da later made Kishore Kumar a genius singer.
Mohammed Rafi first lent his voice to Kishore Kumar for the song ‘Man Mora Bawra’ in the film ‘Ragini’. For the second time, Rafi sang the song ‘Ajab Hai Dastaan Teri Ye Zindagi’ for Kishore in Shankar-Jaikishan’s film ‘Shararat’.
Mehmood had charged more money than comedian Kishore Kumar, Shashi Kapoor and Omprakash in the film ‘Pyaar Kiye Jaa’. Kishore was shocked by this. Kishore Kumar took revenge for this by taking double the money from Mehmood in the film ‘Padosan’.
Whenever Kishore Kumar did stage shows, he always folded his hands and addressed him first – ‘My grandparents.’ My maternal grandparents. My brothers and sisters, Ram-Ram of Kishore Kumar of Khandve to all of you. Hello.
Kishore Kumar spent his childhood in Khandwa, but when he became a teenager, he came to study in Christian College, Indore. Every Monday morning he would come to Indore in meter gauge Chuk-Chuk train from Khandwa and return on Saturday evening. During the journey, he used to change coaches at every station and entertain the passengers by singing new songs.
Kishore Kumar remained an innocent village character throughout his life. He could never join the crowd, parties and glamor of Mumbai. Therefore his last wish was that his last rites be performed in Khandwa itself. This wish was fulfilled, he used to say – ‘After retiring from films, he will settle in Khandwa and eat milk and jalebi daily.[4]
In the year 1987, Kishore Kumar, bored with the fast-paced life of Mumbai, decided that after retiring from films, he would go back to his village Khandwa. But this dream of his also remained unfulfilled. On October 13, 1987, he suffered a heart attack and disappeared from the world.[5]Even though he is not among us today. But with his melodious voice and excellent acting, he will always remain among us.[6]
