Never thought I would act
Arun Bali never thought that he would try his hand in acting. He was a good singer. The actor’s elder brother Yogendra Bali was already a good artist, but fate had something else in store. Around 1961-62, Arun took part in an opera ‘Soni Mahiwal’. After practicing for 6 months, when he was asked to present a play, he became very nervous. The director also scolded him a lot. After which he left the theater and came back.
This is how I got my first show
After working a lot in theatre, he got a chance to work in television. Arun made his TV debut with ‘Doosra Keval’. Shahrukh Khan also worked with him in this show. Hrishikesh Mukherjee liked Arun very much. He had watched all the episodes of the actor’s show ‘Neem Ka Ped’ in a single day. After which he wanted to work with him at any cost.
Also worked with Dilip Kumar
Dilip Kumar had directed only one film ‘Kalinga’ in his life. It starred Jackie Shroff, Amjad Khan and Shilpa Shirodkar in lead roles. Arun Bali also contacted him and expressed his desire to work. Dilip Sahab initially refused but later gave roles to Bali one after the other.
