Sahitya News Desk!! Gopal Chandra Praharaj (English: Gopala Chandra Praharaj; Born- 9 September, 1874, Cuttack, Odisha; Died- 16 May, 1945) was one of the famous litterateurs of India. He was a famous litterateur and linguist of Oriya language. Gopal Chandra Praharaj was quite famous as a satirist with serious thoughts in simple language.
Birth and Education
Gopal Chandra Praharaj was born on 9 September 1874 in a landowning Brahmin family in a village named Sidhekharpur in Cuttack district of Orissa. He received his law education from ‘Kolkata University’. After this, he became a lawyer in the year 1902.
Writing
Gopal Chandra, a lawyer by profession, has created an immortal work called ‘Odia Bhasha Kosh’. This dictionary, published in seven volumes of 1500 pages each, has 1,84,000 words. He planned it in 1913 and it was published in 1940. Gopal Chandra Praharaj roamed around in forests, mountains, villages and cities for 25 years to collect words.
