T.L. Vaswani (English: TL Vaswani, born- November 25, 1879, Hyderabad; died- January 16, 1966, Poona, Maharashtra) was a famous writer, educationist and propagator of Indian culture. His full name was ‘Thanvardas Leelaram Vaswani’, but he was T.L. Became famous by the name of Vaswani. Vaswani was not only a brilliant student, he was also interested in spiritual subjects since childhood. He said that at the age of eight, he had seen a light amidst the void all around and had experienced the same light within himself. Vaswani completed his education with full dedication. In 1918 AD, Vaswani voluntarily adopted a life of poverty. He had already been relieved from the post of principal after his mother’s death. He considered remembering Hari and serving the poor as religion. He used to say- “The best temple is the soul of the poor who gets his food and clothes and offers blessings to God.” It is not the aim of man to run away from the world and perform penance in a forest, mountain or cave. They also considered animals and birds as brothers and sisters of humans. He also had objection to plucking flowers. He used to say- “Flowers also have their own family, so they should not be separated from each other.”

At the age of thirty, Vaswani went to Berlin to participate in the World Conference of Religions as a representative of India. He gave a powerful speech there and later went on to preach throughout Europe. His speeches had a deep impact on people. They kept listening to him mesmerized. He was a very influential speaker. When he spoke, the audience used to listen to him mesmerized. He had a very deep impact on the listeners. By continuously traveling to different parts of India, he presented his ideas to the people and introduced them to Indian culture.
T.L. Vaswani came to earth in that era when India was trapped in the shackles of slavery. There were movements for independence in the country. No person could keep himself away from this movement. He entered active politics by participating in Satyagraha on the issue of partition of Bengal. Later, he actively participated in the movements for India’s independence. He was a great admirer of non-violence of Mahatma Gandhi. He got the opportunity to participate in the freedom movement along with Mahatma Gandhi. He was the protector of the interests of the farmers. His opinion was that – “Landless should be given land and they should be taught modern farming methods.” For this he also supported cooperative farming.

On January 16, 1966, T.L. Vaswani passed away. The Government of India had issued a postage stamp in his memory.
