R. V.S. Peri Shastri (English: RVS Peri Sastri, born- 11 February, 1929; died- 25 November, 1990) was the former Chief Election Commissioner of India. He held this post from January 1, 1986 till his death.

He did his M.A. in English. degree from Madras University. The Election Commission was single-member from 1950 to October 15, 1989, but the V.P. Singh government made it multi-member for the first time through a notification on October 16, 1989. Under this notification, Chief Election Commissioner R. V.S. Two election commissioners under Perry Shastri, S. S. Dhanova and V.S. Saigal was appointed. Even before the new system could function smoothly, the President dissolved it on November 1, 1990. R. V.S. Elections were held in Jammu and Kashmir on March 23, 1987 under the supervision of Perry Shastri. At that time, more than 70 percent people in the valley had exercised their franchise.
