Om Prakash, a famous face of the film world who sometimes made people cry and sometimes tickled with his comic timing. Although he was a character artiste, his strong acting was appreciated by everyone. He puts his life into whatever film he works in. He worked in about 350 films.

Actor Om Prakash was born on 19 December 1919 in Jammu. His full name was Om Prakash Bakshi. He was educated in Lahore which is now part of Pakistan.

He was interested in art from the very beginning. He started learning classical music at the age of about 12.

In the year 1937, Om Prakash got a job in ‘All India Radio Ceylon’ at a salary of Rs 25. People liked his program ‘Fatehadin’ on radio very much.

Actor Om Prakash’s entry into the Hindi film industry was in a filmy style. There is a small story behind this. Actually, he had gone to a wedding at a friend’s place, where Dalsukh Pancholi saw him and sent a telegram to Lahore.

For the film ‘Dasi’ released in 1950, Dalsukh Pancholi contracted actor Om Prakash at a salary of Rs 80. This was Om Prakash’s first talking film.

Together they made films like ‘Duniya Gol Hai’, ‘Jhankar’, ‘Lakeyrein’. After this, Om Prakash formed his own film company and made films like ‘Bhaiyaji’, ‘Gateway of India’, ‘Chacha Zindabad’, ‘Sanjog’ under its banner.

Very few people know that actor Om Prakash had also produced the film ‘Kanhaiya’, in which Raj Kapoor and Nutan starred.

Big stars like Motilal, Ashok Kumar and Prithviraj were often seen in Om Prakash’s films. During his time people used to call him ‘Dynamo’.
