E. S. Venkataramiah (English: Engalaguppe Seetharamiah Venkataramiah, born- 18 December, 1924; died- 24 September, 1997) was the former 19th Chief Justice of India. He held the post of Chief Justice of India from 19 June 1989 to 17 December 1989.
E. S. Venkataramayya started his legal career in 1946. He was appointed as a judge of the Karnataka High Court in November 1970. In March 1979, E. S. Venkataramayya was appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court of India. E. S. Venkataramayya became the Chief Justice of India on June 19, 1989. He was the first person from Karnataka to become the Chief Justice of India. E. S. Venkataramayya died of a heart attack on September 24, 1997.
