Usha Priyamvada (English: Usha Priyamvada, born December 24, 1930, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh) is one of those Hindi storytellers, without whose mention the history of Hindi literature is not complete. She is a powerful story writer of today.
Usha Priyamvada was born on December 24, 1930 in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. He received his higher education from ‘Allahabad University’. The Hindi literature dictionary was always enriched by the writings of Usha ji, who was a student of English. Usha Priyamvada is counted among those storytellers who have recognized and expressed the state of boredom, restlessness, panic and loneliness of modern life. This is the reason that on one hand there is a strong tone of modernity in his works and on the other hand, readers of every class feel identified with the strange incidents and sensitivities in them.
After three years of teaching at Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi and ‘Allahabad University’, he left for America on Fulbright Scholarship, where he did post-doctoral study for two years in Bloomington, Indiana. Presently retired as Professor in the Department of South Asia at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
Usha ji’s fiction contains very emotionally charged pictures of urban families, and she has shown a very deep sense of realism in depicting the sadness, loneliness, boredom etc. of modern life. Some of his major works are as follows-
