Radhakamal Mukherjee (English: Radhakamal Mukerjee; born- December 7, 1889 AD, West Bengal, British India; death- August 24, 1968 AD) was a famous scholar of modern Indian culture and sociology. He had deep interest in subjects like economics, sociology, psychology, ethics, philosophy, aesthetics etc. Dr. Radhakamal Mukherjee had written more than 50 texts on various subjects. He was a supporter of coordination between both Eastern and Western schools of thought.
Dr. Radhakamal Mukherjee, a renowned scholar of Indian culture and sociology, was born on December 7, 1889 in a distinguished Brahmin family in Murshidabad district of West Bengal. His father was a barrister in Baharampur. Radhakamal Mukherjee did his PhD from ‘Kolkata University’. degree.
Ph.D. After completing his graduation, he taught for some time in a college in Lahore and then in ‘Kolkata University’. In 1921, he joined ‘Lucknow University’ as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Sociology and Economics. After retiring from this post in 1952, he also held the post of Vice Chancellor of this university from 1955 to 1957.
He had deep interest in subjects like economics, sociology, psychology, ethics, philosophy, aesthetics etc. Study of art was also his favorite subject. His scholarship made him popular. Major universities of Europe and America kept inviting him to deliver lectures. Due to his passion for Indian arts, he was also the President of Lucknow’s famous ‘Bhatkhande Sangeet Mahavidyalaya’ and State Lalit Kala Academy for many years. In 1955, London’s famous publishing house Macmillan had published a felicitation book in honor of Dr. Mukherjee. He also represented India in the ‘International Labor Organization’. Dr. Radhakamal Mukherjee composed more than 50 texts on various subjects. Those important among them are-

He had also composed a commentary on ‘Bhagavad Gita’, the famous religious text of Hindu religion.
The contribution of Dr. Radhakamal Mukherjee, the second president of ‘Lalit Kala Academy’, is unforgettable for the academy. Radhakamal Mukherjee died while presiding over the general body meeting in the academy premises itself. In memory of such a great man, ‘Dr. ‘Radhakamal Mukherjee Lecture Series’ is being organised. Under this, renowned artists, historians and art critics of the country are invited.
Radhakamal Mukherjee died on August 24, 1968, while presiding over the general body meeting in the premises of ‘Lalit Kala Academy’.
