He is a famous chess player of India. He is at third place in FIDE ratings after India’s famous Vishwanathan Anand and P. Harikrishna. He became ‘International Chess Grandmaster’ in the year 2000.
Introduction
Krishnan Sasikiran was born on 7 January 1981 in Madras (present day Chennai). Sasikiran has earned fame by winning many international competitions. He is a very promising player. In fact, Indian players have made their mark in the game of chess at such a young age that they have been known as ‘child prodigies’. But in this respect, Sasikiran started chess a little late. He joined the sport at the age of 12, but has quickly made a name for himself by winning some of the most prestigious competitions in a short period of time.

Sasikiran won the title of International Chess Grandmaster in the Commonwealth Championship (2000) held in Sangli, Maharashtra. In the year 2000 itself, he joined Pentamedia Category XI GM in Chennai. Won the tournament. Then in the year 2001 and 2002, he won the ‘Hastings International Chess Congress’ in England. Tasting the success, Sasikiran continued moving forward. In 2003 he won his fourth Asian Individual Championships. In the same year he also won the ‘Politiken Cup’ in Copenhagen. In 2005, there was a tie between Sasikiran and Jan Timmons for the first place in the ‘Sijman Tournament’ in Denmark (Copenhagen).
Krishnan Sasikiran In the Amtel Masters chess tournament in May 2007, Harikrishnan was defeated by Veselin Topalov of Bulgaria in the last round and Sasikiran had to settle for second place. He was in the lead till the penultimate round, but Sasikiran lost to Topalov’s better strategy.
