Kuriakosi Ilyas Chavara was born in an ordinary family in Alappuzha district of Kerala on 10 February 1805 AD. He did a lot of work for the education of not only Catholic Christians but also the deprived sections of other communities. Interestingly, he first established a Sanskrit school. The process of declaring Father Kuriakosi Ilyas Chavara as ‘saint’ began in the year 1984.
