He learned Rabindra Sangeet at a young age and later took professional training in classical music. Till now she has sung more than 25000 songs in 16 languages. In 1971, Kavita recorded her first song for a Bengali film with India’s Nightingale Lata Mangeshkar. Kavita has won many awards throughout her career. The singer has received 4 Filmfare Awards for Best Female Playback Singer, Lata Mangeshkar Award and India’s fourth highest civilian award ‘Padma Shri’ in 2005.
