Any country can be strong only when all its communities live in mutual harmony and cooperation. This sentence is of Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya ji. Even today the country tells its countrymen that there is strength in unity. Through his works, he made deep contributions in the fields of education, social reform, freedom struggle, journalism and religion. The establishment of BAU, promotion of Hindi language and his activism in India’s freedom struggle reflect his foresight and courage.

Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya was born on 25 December 1861 in Prayagraj. He completed his education from Calcutta University. Let us tell you that the title of Mahamana was given by Mahatma Gandhi. He became Congress President four times and gave his priorities to truth, religion and education. When he went to B.H.U. When he set out to collect money for the construction of the temple, he came face to face with the Nizam of Hyderabad. When he asked for financial help, the Nizam rudely said that he had only shoes to give. Malviya ji picked up the Nizam’s shoe and announced to auction it. Hearing this, the Nizam saved his honor by donating heavily. When Kashi Hindu University was established in 1916, a donation of Rs 1 crore 64 lakh was collected for its construction.

Madan Mohan Malviya also played an active role in India’s independence movement. He was part of the Civil Disobedience Movement and Non-Cooperation Movement. Mahatma Gandhi gave him the title of Mahamana and considered him as his elder brother. He became the President of the Indian National Congress four times (1909, 1913, 1919 and 1932) and raised the voice of the Indian people against the British. Madan Mohan Malviya played an important role in popularizing the phrase ‘Satyamev Jayate’. He used it in the Congress session in 1918 and made it the motto of the entire country. Later it was inscribed under the national emblem of India.

Mahamana was not only an educationist and freedom fighter but also a great social reformer whose ideas are an inspiration to the society even today. May righteousness and religion triumph, and may all communities and societies prosper, may our beloved motherland regain its lost glory, and may the sons of India be victorious.

Great thinker and social reformer

Mahamana was not only an educationist and freedom fighter but also a great social reformer whose ideas are an inspiration to the society even today. May righteousness and religion triumph, and may all communities and societies prosper, may our beloved motherland regain its lost glory, and may the sons of India be victorious. Fearlessness is the path to liberation. Be fearless and fight for justice. Consider religion as the sure foundation of character and the true source of human happiness. Any country can be strong only when all its communities live in mutual harmony and cooperation. “If you accept the intrinsic purity of the human soul, you or your religion cannot in any way be defiled or defiled by the touch or association of any person.”

Madan Mohan Malviya was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna in 2014. His teachings, thoughts and contributions inspire us even today.
