History News Desk !! Madhukar Hiralal Kania (English: Madhukar Hiral Kania, born- 18 November 1927; death- 1 February 2016) was the 23rd Chief Justice of India. He was the Chief Justice of India from 13 December 1991 to 17 November 1992 from his retirement.
Madhukar Hiralal Kania was born in Bombay (present -day Mumbai, Maharashtra). Madhukar Hiralal Kania was educated from Fellowship School, St. Xavier’s High School, Elphinstone College and Government Law College, Mumbai. He enrolled as a lawyer in the Bombay High Court on 1 November 1949. He mainly practiced civil cases and commercial matters in the High Court and Bombay City Civil Court. He also appeared for the state of Maharashtra in civil cases in Bombay City Civil Court. From December 5, 1964 to January 15, 1967, Madhukar Hiralal Kania was an assistant government lawyer for the state of Maharashtra in Bombay City Civil Court. He was a government lawyer for the state of Maharashtra in Bombay City Civil Court from January 16, 1967 to November 3, 1969. From November 14, 1969, he was appointed as Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court. He was appointed a permanent judge of the Bombay High Court on 2 November 1971. In June 1986, he was appointed Chief Justice of Bombay High Court. In May 1987, Madhukar Hiralal Kania was appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court of India and on December 13, 1991 he became the Chief Justice of India.
