Offer Arghya in this manner on Makar Sankranti –
Let us tell you that on the auspicious day of Makar Sankranti, wake up early in the morning and take bath, then wear clean clothes and sit facing east at sunrise. After this, fill a copper pot with water and add red flowers, kumkum, akshat, jaggery and sesame seeds in it. After this, chant the mantras while raising the water towards the Sun God.

Offer water to Lord Surya and keep in mind that the stream of water falls directly on the Sun. After offering Arghya, look carefully at Lord Sun. Then go around your place thrice, this is considered equivalent to circumambulating the Sun God and finally perform the Aarti of the Sun God.
