Mohammad Azharuddin (English: Mohammad Azharuddin, born 8 February, 1963, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh) has been the world famous former cricketer and captain of the Indian cricket team. There are only a few cricketers in India who had mastered sending the ball from the wrist to the boundary line. One of the same players was former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin. Azharuddin, known as the “Written Magician”, was not only a better batsman of his era but also a best fielder. He lashed out many incredible catch on slip, street, point and other close positions. In 2009, he started his political career with the Congress party and became an MP from Moradabad. Mohammad Azharuddin was awarded the title of ‘Wisdon Cricketer of the Year’ in 1991, while in 1986, in addition to the ‘Arjuna Award’, he was awarded ‘Padma Shri’ in 1988.

Mohammad Azharuddin was born on 8 February 1963 in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh (now Telangana) state. He grew up in Hyderabad since childhood. His father’s name was Mohammad Azizuddin and mother’s name was Yusuf Sultana. Mohammad Azharuddin was fond of playing cricket since childhood. At the age of 17, he learned all the qualities of cricket. In his cricket career, he was known for different types of batting.[1]

Mohammad Azharuddin received his early education at All St. High School, Hyderabad. Cricket training was given quite well in that school. While playing cricket, he graduated at Bachelor of Commerce from Nizam College, Osmania University, Hyderabad, Telangana.
Marriage
Mohammad Azharuddin was married to Naureen’s first marriage. They also had two children Asaduddin and Ayazuddin and but they got divorced only after 9 years of marriage. In 2011, his son Ayazuddin died in a road accident at the age of just 19. In 1996, Mohammad Azharuddin married his second marriage to famous model and Bollywood actress Sangeeta Bijlani. However, in 2010, both of them divorced their desire after 14 years.

ODI career
In 1985, Mohammad Azharuddin also made his ODI debut by playing a match against England in Bangalore. Azhar scored 9,378 runs in 334 ODIs with 7 centuries and 58 half -centuries. From 1990 to 1999, Mohammad Azharuddin was the captain of the Indian ODI team. He was very spectacular as a flighter. He caught 156 scissors in Ekadivas Manch. Team India played 174 ODIs under the captaincy of Mohammad Azharuddin. Which won 90 matches and lost 76 matches. After Azhar, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the captain of the ODI team, is known among the most successful captains. In Dhoni’s captaincy, Team India has so far won 104 matches in 191 ODIs and lost 72 matches.
Test career
Mohammad Azharuddin is known as the best batsman in the cricket world. He gave Team India a victory in many matches on the basis of his batting. Azhar scored 6,216 runs in 99 Test matches with 22 centuries and 21 half -centuries. He is counted among the most successful captains of Team India. Team India won several matches under his captaincy. Azhar was the captain in the Indian Test team from 1990 to 1999. In Azhar’s captaincy, Team India played a total of 47 Test matches, winning 14 matches and lost in 14 matches. He started his cricket career by hitting 3 consecutive centuries from his first Test. In 1991, his name was included in the Wisden Cricketer of the Year.
Sourav Ganguly later broke his record when the Indian team won the 21 Test match under the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly. And later Mahendra Singh Dhoni won India in 27 Tests out of 60 Tests. This record was soon broken by Virat Kohli. When Virat Kohli captained 48 Tests, won 28 Tests against West Indies in Jamaica and the trend continues further under Kohli’s captaincy. A famous cricket writer John Woodcock had also praised Mohammad Azharuddin in his articles and also said that he never saw the best cricket debut. At that time, only Mohammad Azharuddin was being discussed in international cricket.
Fixing dispute
In the last days of his career, South African captain Hansi Krze accused Mohammad Azharuddin of match fixing. Then the Indian Central Bureau of Investigation found him guilty in its report. Then in 2000, ICC and BCCI banned Azharuddin. Although the ban was rejected by the Andhra Pradesh High Court on November 8, 2012, his cricket career had ended.
Politics
Mohammad Azharuddin’s cricket career ended after being accused of FICSING. But he started his second inning as a politician by joining the Congress party in 2009. Mohammad Azharuddin joined the Congress party on 19 February 2009 and reached Parliament from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh this year.

A film based on the life of Mohammad Azharuddin was also made. Directed by Tony D’Souza, the film is named ‘Azhar’. In the film, Mohammad Azharuddin was played by Emraan Hashmi, Naureen as Prachi Desai, Sangeeta Bijlani was played by Nargis Fakhri. The film also featured Huma Qureshi in the lead role. The film was released on 13 May 2016.[1]
