Mohammad Yunus Saleem (English: Mohammad Yunus Saleem, born- 26 September, 1912; died- 15 January, 2004) was a Member of Parliament in the 16th Lok Sabha. In the 2014 elections, he contested from the Raiganj seat of West Bengal on behalf of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). Apart from being a politician, Mohammad Saleem was also known as a scholar and advocate. He was also very active in the religious field.
Mohammad Salim was also a poet who campaigned to make Urdu the second official language. He was a devout Muslim who regularly prayed and never missed a fast. The Mohammad Yunus Salim Memorial Education Trust was founded by his son Junaid Abdul Rahman to promote the study of the Quran. In 1987, Mohammad Salim joined the newly formed party during the expulsion of V. P. Singh from the Congress and the formation of the Jan Morcha. He played a role in bringing the parties together and forming the Janata Dal. In 1990, Mohammad Salim became the Governor of Bihar. In 1991, he again became an MP from Katihar constituency. In 1996, Mohammad Salim rejoined the Congress and remained a member till his death. He died on 15 January 2004 at his residence in Delhi after a brief illness.
