State News Desk!!! M.S. Gopalakrishnan (English: MS Gopalakrishnan; born- June 10, 1931, Madras, British India; died- January 3, 2013, Chennai, Tamil Nadu) was one of the famous violinists of India. Honored with ‘Padma Bhushan’ and other awards, Gopalakrishnan had enthralled the lovers of ‘Hindustani’ and ‘Karnataka music’ with his violin tunes for seven decades. He was also known as ‘MS Ji’.
M.S. from his father Perur Sundaram Iyer. Gopalakrishnan took music lessons. His father himself was a skilled violinist. M.S. Gopalakrishnan had deep knowledge of both ‘Carnatic Music’ (South Indian) and ‘Hindustani Music’ (North Indian). His elder brother M.S. Anantharaman was also a famous violinist. Violinists Lalgudi Jayaraman and T.N. Krishnan was his contemporary. M.S. Gopalakrishnan is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son. One of his daughters, Dr. M. Narmada, has taken violin lessons from her father. Gopalakrishnan was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai after complaining of breathing problems, where he died on January 3, 2013.
