Born in a Marathi family in 1951, Nana Patekar started his career in a very difficult period. Today he has many excellent and memorable films in Hindi and Marathi films to his name. Nana Patekar has been working in theater and films since the young age of 13. He started his career with a negative role in the film Gaman. However, his first breakthrough came in 1986 when people saw him in his hit film Ankush. People appreciated his signature style in the film. After working in many films for a decade, Nana Patekar got real recognition and commercial success from films like Parinda, Tiranga, Krantiveer, Agni Sakshi, Khamoshi and Bhoot. He also received the National Award for Best Supporting Role in Agni Sakshi. Similarly, he played the role of Uday Shetty in Welcome which shows the range of his comic style. Nana Patekar’s acting in Taxi No. 9211, Shagird, Chappan till now is excellent. Nana Patekar did the Marathi film Natsamrat in 2016. People still remember his acting in this film. This is a classic film. Starring Marathi stalwarts like Vikram Gokhale and Medha Manjekar, the film stars Nana Patekar as a retired man surrounded by family, wife and children. Nana Patekar also joined the Indian Territorial Army as Captain in 1990.
He also took three years of army training for the role of Major in his film Prahaar – The Final Attack. At that time he worked closely with General VK Singh. During the Kargil War in 1999, he put his acting career on hold and served with the Maratha Light Infantry Regiment. Recently Nana Patekar’s film Vanvas has been released. This film has been directed by Gadar fame Anil Sharma.
