Around 30 MLAs, including Tej Pratap Yadav, brother of Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, took oath as part of the new cabinet of Bihar under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. RJD has got the largest part of the ministerial post, which is the largest party in Bihar. On August 10, 2022, Nitish Kumar was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Bihar for the eighth time, while Tejashwi Yadav of Rashtriya Janata Dal was declared Deputy Chief Minister. On August 9, 2022, Nitish Kumar submitted his resignation to the Governor of the state, as his Janata Dal decided to break ties with the ruling coalition partner, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Nitish Kumar’s resignation came a few hours later, when he allegedly stated in a meeting that the alliance with the BJP is over as the party is not giving respect and conspiring against him.
Nitish Kumar is the 23rd Chief Minister of Bihar. He is also the second longest serving CM of Bihar. Nitish Kumar is associated with the Janata Dal (United) Party and has also been a minister in the central government of India. Nitish Kumar: Birth, family and education
Nitish Kumar was born on 1 March 1951 in Bakhtiyarpur, Bihar to Kaviraj Ram Lakhan Singh (father) and Parameshwari Devi (mother). His father was an Ayurvedic doctor. Nitish Kumar has graduated in Mechanical Engineering from Bihar College of Engineering (Current NIT Patna). He was associated with the Bihar State Electricity Board before joining politics. According to the list of allotted departments, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has kept the Home Department with him, while Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav has been given the Health Department. Meanwhile, Vijay Kumar Chaudhary has been given the Finance Department, while Tej Pratap Yadav has been made the Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
Nitish Kumar: Political Career
In his early years, Nitish Kumar Jayaprakash Narayan, Ram Manohar Lohia, S.N. Sinha, Karpoori Thakur and V.P. Was associated with Singh. From 1974 to 1977, he participated in the movement of Jayaprakash Narayan and joined the Janata Party led by Satyendra Narayan Sinha. He served as the Union Minister of Railways, Surface Transport Minister and Agriculture Minister for some time. After the Gasal train accident (2 August 1999), he resigned as the Union Railway Minister. During his tenure as Union Railway Minister, he brought extensive improvements including internal ticket booking facility (2002) and immediate booking of tickets.
In the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, Nitish Kumar contested from two constituencies (Nalanda and floods). He lost to his traditional constituency floods but won from Nalanda. In March 2000, he was elected Chief Minister of Bihar for the first time. In November 2010, he became the Chief Minister of Bihar for the second time. However, after his party’s poor performance in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, he resigned as Chief Minister on 17 May 2014 and took moral responsibility for the party’s performance. He was replaced by Jeetan Ram Manjhi of Janata Dal (United).
In 2015, he was again elected as the Chief Minister of Bihar. When Tejashwi Yadav (Deputy CM of Bihar) was accused of corruption, Nitish Kumar asked him to resign from the cabinet, which the RJD refused. After the refusal, Nitish Kumar resigned as the Chief Minister on 26 July 2017, ending the Grand Alliance and joined the major opposition, NDA. He became the Chief Minister of Bihar again and is working in this post till date.
Nitish Kumar: Personal Life
On 22 February 1973, Nitish Kumar tied the knot with Manju Kumari Sinha. The couple gave birth to a son, Nishant Kumar. On 14 May 2007, Manju Kumari Sinha died in New Delhi due to pneumonia.
