History News Desk !!! Yusuf Meherally (English: Yusuf Meherally, born- 23 September 1903, Mumbai, Maharashtra; died- 2 July 1950) was a freedom fighter and social reformer. Yusuf contributed to strengthening the workers and farmers’ organization and due to this he had to go to jail eight times during the freedom struggle. Meherali was one of the founders of Congress Socialist.

Yusuf Zafar Meherali was born on 23 September 1903 in an elite Khoja Muslim family of Mumbai. He received his education from Calcutta and Mumbai. Yusuf passed the 10th class examination in 1920 and the graduation examination in 1925. Minoo Masani, Ashok Mehta, K.F. Nariman, Achyuta Patwardhan, Jayaprakash Narayan and Kamala Devi Chattopadhyay were some of his close associates.

Yusuf Meherali took part in the Salt Satyagraha of 1930. In 1934, he was arrested on charges of conspiring against the British Raj and was sentenced to two years of rigorous imprisonment. Meherali was one of the founders of the Congress Socialist. He took part in the Vishisht Satyagraha of 1940 and was arrested and put behind bars on both occasions. Yusuf Meherali died in 1950 at the young age of 47.
