Sahitya News Desk !!! Jogesh Das (English: Jogesh Das, born- 1 April, 1927; died- 9 September, 1999) was one of the famous writers of Assamese language. He was awarded the ‘Sahitya Akademi Award’ in 1980 for a story collection ‘Prithviveer Asukh’ written by him. His ‘Folklore of Assam’, which was originally in English and then in other Indian languages, is a simple and comprehensive book on Assamese folk tales.
birth and education
Litterateur Jogesh Das was born on 1 April 1927 in North Lakhimpur, Assam. He completed his M.A. in Assamese literature from Guwahati University in 1953 and then started working as a journalist.

In 1980, Jogesh Das received the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award for his collection of short stories ‘Prithviveer Oxukh’. In 1994, he received the ‘Assam Valley Literary Award’ for his contribution to Assamese literature.
