Pradeep Kumar was born in a Brahmin family on January 4, 1925 in West Bengal. Pradeep Kumar used to dream of working as an actor in films since childhood. To fulfill this dream, he joined theater early in his life. However, his father was not ready for this. At the age of 17, Pradeep Kumar came to Mumbai to fulfill his dream. After coming to Mumbai, he started working as an assistant to cameraman Dhiren Dey. In the year 1947, he met director Devaki Bose. Devaki Bose saw a rising star in Pradeep Kumar and gave him a chance to work in his Bengali film ‘Alakhananda’. Even though Pradeep Kumar was not successful in making a name for himself as an actor through this film, he started the journey of a cine career as an actor. Meanwhile, Pradeep Kumar acted in another Bengali film ‘Bhooli Naay’. The film Bhooli Naay completed its silver jubilee at the box office. After this, Pradeep Kumar also turned towards Hindi films.[1]
