Prahlad Joshi (English: Pralhad Joshi, born- 11 September, 1962, Bijapur, Mysore[1]) is a politician of Bharatiya Janata Party. He has been made the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Minister of Coal and Minister of Mines in the cabinet of Narendra Modi in the seventeenth Lok Sabha. He was elected a member of the 15th Lok Sabha from Dharwad constituency of Karnataka in the 2009 general elections. Prahlad Joshi has won the Lok Sabha elections from Dharwad seat four times in a row. He was the general secretary of the Karnataka unit of BJP and then became the state president in 2013.
Prahlad Joshi, a staunch supporter of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and a longtime worker for the Bharatiya Janata Party, has won four times from the Dharwad constituency. Prahlad Joshi, the state president of the Karnataka unit of BJP, came into the limelight when the party launched a movement to hoist the tricolour at the Idgah grounds in Hubli. In 2004, Prahlad Joshi won the election from Dharwad North. After this, in 2009, the name of this seat was changed to Dharwad and he won from here both the times. Prahlad Joshi has also been the state president of BJP in Karnataka. He is also known as a businessman and has graduated from Hubli University. Karnataka’s Dharwad Lok Sabha seat was earlier known as Dharwad North seat, but in the 2009 elections, it was named Dharwad Parliamentary seat. BJP has dominated this seat for a long time. Located about 429 km from the capital Bengaluru, this district is located in the north-west of the state, which was merged with Hubli city in 1992. Dharwad Lok Sabha seat came into existence after the delimitation in 2008. Earlier this seat was known as Dharwad North. So far, elections have been held here a total of 16 times, in which Congress has won 10 times; but the special thing is that since 1996, BJP has been winning the Dharwad Lok Sabha seat continuously. Since 2004, BJP’s Prahlad Joshi has been the Lok Sabha MP from this seat. The main contest on the Dharwad Lok Sabha seat was between Vinay Kulkarni of Congress and Prahlad Joshi of Bharatiya Janata Party. This seat went to the account of BJP. Prahlad Joshi of BJP won by a margin of 205072 votes. According to the data received from the Election Commission, 70.04 percent voting was recorded on the Dharwad Lok Sabha seat.
