Ramveer Upadhyay (English: Ramveer Upadhyay, born- 1 August, 1957; died- 2 September, 2022) was a politician who held a special place in the politics of Uttar Pradesh. He was an MLA in the 16th Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh. In the 2012 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections, he won the election from the Sikandrarao Assembly constituency (constituency number-80) of the state. Ramveer Upadhyay was a cabinet minister in the government of Mayawati, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. Later he joined the BJP. Ramveer Upadhyay, who was an MLA from various assembly seats of Hathras for about 25 years, was counted among the strong leaders.
Ramveer Upadhyay was born on August 1, 1957 in village Bamori, district Hathras, Uttar Pradesh. His father’s name was Ramcharan Upadhyay. Ramveer Upadhyay received his graduation degree from Meerut University. He got married on February 14, 1985. He has two daughters and a son. Ramveer Upadhyay, who was an MLA from various assembly seats of Hathras for about 25 years, was counted among the strong leaders. His wife Seema Upadhyay is the President of District Panchayat Hathras. Ramveer Upadhyay’s brother Rameshwar is the block chief. His another brother Mukul Upadhyay is a former MLA.
Ramveer Upadhyay, former energy minister of Uttar Pradesh, was also the minister of medical education and transport in the BSP government. He had a deep connection with Agra. He had a strong hold in the Brahmin community. In 2009, he fielded his wife Seema Upadhyay from Fatehpur Sikri Lok Sabha seat of Agra. She won the election by defeating Raj Babbar.
Ramveer Upadhyay, originally a resident of Sadabad, had made Agra his karmabhoomi during the BSP government. He built a house in Shastripuram. Ramveer Upadhyay, a strong leader of BSP, became disillusioned with the party during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. His wife Seema Upadhyay and brother Mukul Upadhyay had already joined the BJP. Before the assembly elections, his son Chirag also joined the BJP in Agra. In the assembly elections, the BJP fielded him from Sadabad, but he could not win. Ramveer Upadhyay had a deep penetration in the Brahmin community as well as the entire society in Agra and the surrounding districts. This was the reason why the BJP not only included him in the party but also fielded him in the assembly elections.[1]
Before the 1991 elections, Ramveer Upadhyay became active in the area. He tried to get a BJP ticket from Hathras seat. When he did not get a ticket, he contested as an independent and made his presence felt, but did not win. In 1996, he won the election from Hathras on a BSP ticket. He became a cabinet minister in the Mayawati government. He was elected MLA in 1996, 2002 and 2007 on a BSP ticket and became a minister in the Mayawati cabinet each time. Ramveer Upadhyay was known as a former energy minister and one of the top leaders close to Mayawati. He won the 2012 elections from Sikandrarao seat of Hathras. In 2017, he became an MLA by winning the election from Saadabad assembly seat.[2]
