Shafi Inamdar has been one of those few Bollywood actors who never played a lead role but gained fame by playing side roles. In the year 1982, he started his film career with the film ‘Vijeta’.
He came into limelight by playing the role of Inspector Haider Ali in the blockbuster film ‘Ardh Satya’ released in 1983. After this, he appeared in films like ‘Nazarana’, ‘Anokha-Rishta’ and ‘Amrit’ and became more popular than the hero. Shafi’s acting and dialogue delivery were so beautiful that as soon as he appeared on the screen, the audience could not take their eyes off him. Shafi worked with every big star like Rajesh Khanna, Vinod Khanna, Nana Patekar, Rekha, Hema Malini. Shafi, who was active in the film world for almost two decades, was quite successful on the small screen as well. He played the lead role in the serial ‘Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi’. He also played an important role in Gulzar’s serial Ghalib.

Even before his fans could see Shafi Inamdar in some more important roles, he left this world. Shafi died on 13 March 1996 at the age of just 50. The semi-final of the Cricket World Cup was being played between India and Sri Lanka and Shafi suffered a heart attack while watching this match. Shafi Inamdar appeared in about 50 films in his entire career. Even though he is no longer with us today, his memories and artwork will always be with us.
Married to actress Bhakti Bharve
Shafi Inamdar married actress Bhakti Bharve, who was seen in the film Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro. She was three years younger than Shafi. Bhakti Bharve was a big name in Marathi and Gujarati theatre. Before this, she used to be a news reader in Doordarshan and All India Radio. Five years after the death of Shafi Inamdar, Bhakti Bharve also died.
