In ancient times, a Seth used to live in a city. He had no dearth of wealth. Seth had a lot of compassion within him. He did not let anyone leave his house empty handed. He used to give donations to everyone. Seth had everything, but he had no children. Because of this both Seth and Sethani used to remain unhappy. One day he decided that he would go on a pilgrimage. After this he set out on a pilgrimage. As soon as he came out of his city, his eyes fell on a monk. The sage was in samadhi. Both of them thought of taking the blessings of the sage and moving ahead.
Then both the husband and wife sat in front of the sage and started waiting for him to wake up from samadhi. After a long time, when the sage woke up from samadhi, he saw both husband and wife sitting in front of him. Then the monk blessed both of them. He told the husband and wife that I have understood what is in your mind. The patience and devotion of both of you has made me very happy. Then the sage told them about Shani Pradosh fast for having a child. After returning from the pilgrimage, both husband and wife observed Shani Pradosh fast regularly. Later, due to the effect of fasting, Seth and Sethani were blessed with a son, Ratna.
