History News Desk !!! Swami Shivanand (English: Shivananda, born- 16 December 1854; Death- 20 February 1934) was the second Sangh Speaker of the Ramakrishna Mission. His former name was ‘Taraknath Ghoshal’. His disciples used to call him as ‘Mahapurush Maharaj’. Swami Shivanand was a Hindu spiritual leader and a direct disciple of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa.
Swami Shivanand was born in a village called Barsaat in West Bengal. He was a Hindu spiritual leader and a direct disciple of Ramakrishna, who became the second president of the Ramakrishna Mission. His devotees refer to him as Mahapurush Maharaj (great soul). Swami Shivanand and Subodhanand were the only direct disciples of Ramakrishna. He was a cosmination. Shivanand ji was known for laying the foundation stone of Sri Ramakrishna Temple in Belur Math, designed by Vijayanand.
