There have been some actors in Indian cinema who made their hobby a career and later became successful in it. One such artist is Dr. Shriram Lagoo. Dr. Lagoo was an ENT surgeon by profession. But he developed a passion for acting during his medical studies. His hobby was such that later he came to be known as the Nat Samrat of Marathi theatre. He worked as a character actor in many Hindi films. Shriram Lagoo died in Pune. Apart from Hindi films, he has also worked in Marathi cinema. Shriram Lagoo worked in more than 100 Hindi and 40 Marathi films in his film career.
Shri Ram Lagoo was born on 16 November 1927 in Satara, Maharashtra. He was an avid theater artiste. The special thing is that as much as his acting in films is appreciated, he is equally appreciated for his contribution in the development of theatre.
Dr. Lagoo also worked in Hindi and Marathi films. He played character roles in more than 100 films. In 1978, Dr. Lagoo was awarded the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for the film Gharaunda. Before acting in films and plays, Dr. Lago also lived in Africa for a few years where he worked as a physician. He later returned to India and became active in theatre. By the 70s, Dr. Lagoo had established himself as a good theater artist in the country.
Dr. Lagoo was the first hero of the famous play Nat Samrat. This play was written by the famous writer Kusumagra, in which his acting is still remembered. After his brilliant performance in this play, he came to be known as Nat Samrat. Khuddaar, Aurat Teri Yeh Kahani, Kala Bazaar, Vidhaata and Laawaris are such films in which he is still remembered for his brilliant acting.
