History News Desk !!! TV Rajeswar (English – TV Rajeswar, born – 28 August 1926 Salem, Tamil Nadu) is the first Indian police officer who was appointed to the constitutional post of Lieutenant Governor. He was the former Governor of Sikkim, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh.
Introduction
T.V. Rajeswar was born on August 28, 1926 in Salem, Tamil Nadu. He is survived by his wife Smt. Mahalakshmi Rajeswar and a daughter and a son.
Educational Qualification
He completed his BA (Hons) from Presidency College, Madras University and MA in Economics in 1947.
Career
T.V. Rajeshwar joined the Indian Police Service in 1949 and was posted in the former Hyderabad State. After the reorganization of states, he joined the Andhra Pradesh cadre and was Superintendent of Police in Nizamabad, Raichur and Guntur districts. He was Deputy Commissioner of Police of Hyderabad-Secunderabad twin cities. In 1962, he was posted in the Intelligence Bureau as Assistant Director. As an Intelligence Bureau officer, he was posted in Sikkim and Bhutan as Special Officer and Advisor respectively between 1963-1967. Between 1967 and 1980, he worked as Deputy Director and Joint Director at the headquarters of the Intelligence Bureau.
In 1980, he was promoted to the post of Director of Intelligence Bureau and held this post till August 1983. In August 1983, he was appointed Lieutenant Governor of Arunachal Pradesh. He was the first Indian Police Officer to be appointed to the constitutional post of Lieutenant Governor.
Political Activities
In November 1985, he was appointed Governor of Sikkim and remained on this post till March 1989. In March 1989, he was appointed Governor of West Bengal. In February 1990, on the advice of the then President Shri R. Venkataraman, he resigned from the post along with all other governors. He was the Governor of Uttar Pradesh from 8 July 2004 to 27 July 2009.
