Sonia Gandhi Birthday: The true Indian daughter-in-law who was the powerful Congress President… On the occasion of her birthday, know how was the political journey of Sonia Gandhi.

Sonia Gandhi (English: Sonia Gandhi) is a famous Indian leader. Sonia was born on 9 December 1946 in ‘Luciana’, Italy, in a ‘Mano’ family. Sonia Gandhi is the President of the Indian National Congress. She is the MP from Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh and along with this she also heads the ‘UPA’ in the 14th Lok Sabha. After the assassination of her husband Rajiv Gandhi, she entered politics. Sonia Gandhi has achieved an important position on the national and international political horizon. Sonia Gandhi is the daughter-in-law of an influential political family of India.

As is tradition in Louisiana homes, pink ribbons were tied when Sonia was born. Sonia was named ‘Edvije Antonia Albina Maino’ in church, but her father ‘Stefano’ called her Sonia. By keeping the Russian name, he wanted to thank the Russian families who had saved his life during World War II. Sonia’s father Stefano was in Mussolini’s army which was defeated by the Russian army.

Sonia attended the Convent School of ‘Giaveno’, she was not a good student, but was cheerful and helpful to others. Due to cough and asthma, she used to sleep alone in the boarding school. Later, while studying in ‘Turin’, the dream of becoming an air hostess also arose in her mind, but that dream soon changed. After this, she also wanted to become a ‘foreign language teacher’ or ‘translator in the United Nations’. Congress President Sonia Gandhi may have been accepted easily by Indians, but her success remains a matter of surprise for other countries. His journey from an ordinary family to the top of the world’s largest democracy has aroused deep curiosity among people. Keeping this in mind, ‘Spanish writer and journalist’ ‘Javier Moro’ has written a book on her life named ‘El Saree Rojo’ (The Red Saree).

After primary education, he enrolled in an educational institution teaching foreign languages and learned English, French and Russian. She met Shri Rajiv Gandhi in ‘Cambridge’, where she was pursuing further studies in English language. Rajiv was studying at Trinity College, Cambridge at that time. In the year 1965, both of them met in a ‘Greek restaurant’. After that Sonia Gandhi came to India. Her marriage with Rajiv Gandhi took place in New Delhi in 1968. Rajiv Gandhi was a pilot and was not interested in politics. Sonia Gandhi spent most of her married life taking care of her family. He also fulfilled his responsibilities well as an aide to his mother-in-law Indira Gandhi. Sonia Gandhi has two children, son Rahul Gandhi and daughter Priyanka Gandhi.

Sonia Gandhi’s husband Rajiv Gandhi had no interest in politics and worked as an airline pilot. After the Emergency, when Indira Gandhi had to leave power, Rajiv Gandhi went to live abroad with his family for some time. But after the untimely death of his younger brother Sanjay Gandhi in a plane crash in 1980, Rajiv Gandhi entered politics in 1982 to support mother Indira Gandhi. Initially, Sonia avoided political activities and had completely settled into the role of a ‘housewife’. Her presence in Indian public life increased after the assassination of her mother-in-law and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and the election of her husband as Prime Minister.

Being the wife of the Prime Minister, Sonia played the role of his official host and accompanied him on trips to different countries. She also kept looking after the matters related to her husband’s constituency Amethi from time to time. He paid full attention to the development works of Uttar Pradesh, especially ‘health related camps’ and ‘public welfare works’, he promoted them with his participation. In 1984, during her husband’s tenure as Prime Minister, the issue of ‘kickback’ (commission – bribe) taken by the ‘Indian Army’ in the purchase of ‘Bofors cannon’ came up, the main character of which was an Italian citizen, Ottavio Quattoracci, who was a close friend of Sonia Gandhi. Was a friend. Congress was defeated in the next elections and Rajiv Gandhi had to step down from the post of Prime Minister. There was every possibility of Congress winning the next elections and Rajiv Gandhi becoming Prime Minister again, but on May 21, 1991, Tamil terrorists assassinated Rajiv Gandhi in a bomb blast.

After the assassination of her husband in 1991, she established the ‘Rajiv Gandhi Foundation’ and its sister organization ‘Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Contemporary Studies’. As president of these institutions, she actively contributed to carrying forward the ideological legacy of her husband. She is also the president of other non-governmental organizations. After the murder of her husband, senior Congress leaders without consulting Sonia announced the appointment of Sonia Gandhi as the President of the Congress, but Sonia did not accept it and expressed her hatred and distrust towards politicians in the words that I I will see my children begging, but I will not step into politics. He did not step into politics for a long time and concentrated on raising his son and daughter. Congress also lost the 1996 general elections due to the weak Prime Ministership of ‘P V Narasimha Rao’ and after that due to ‘Sitaram Kesari’ being the weak President of the Congress, the support of the Congress was decreasing due to which the Congress leaders again appealed to Nehru- Felt the need for a member of the Gandhi family. She finally joined the Congress as a primary member at the 1997 Congress conference in Kolkata. Under his pressure, Sonia Gandhi accepted the primary membership of Congress in the ‘Plenary Session’ of Kolkata in 1997 and within 62 days, Sonia Gandhi was elected President of Congress in 1998. He also tried unsuccessfully to form a government. After entering politics, the issue of him being a foreigner was raised. His weak Hindi was also made an issue. In 1999, she was elected Leader of the Opposition in the 13th Lok Sabha. In 2003, despite everyone’s opposition, Sonia Gandhi single-handedly brought a no-confidence motion against the NDA government of the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, which was not successful, but due to this, Sonia Gandhi’s personal image as an opponent of the NDA government was well established. This happened and he benefited from it in the 2004 general elections.

The Left parties decided to support the government of Congress and its allies to keep the Bharatiya Janata Party out of power, resulting in a clear majority for the Congress and its allies. Before the 2004 elections, the general opinion was that Atal Bihari Vajpayee would become the Prime Minister, but Sonia campaigned extensively across the country and in results that shocked everyone, Congress unexpectedly got more than 200 seats. He successfully led the election campaign of the Congress Party in the 2004 general elections, as a result of which the Congress Party emerged as the largest party and a coalition government of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) was formed under the leadership of Congress. In this election, Sonia Gandhi was elected MP from Rae Bareli region of Uttar Pradesh.

NDA leaders, angry at their defeat, accused Sonia Gandhi of being of foreign origin and some well-known leaders like Sushma Swaraj and Uma Bharti announced that if Sonia Gandhi became the Prime Minister, she would shave her head and Will sleep on the ground only.
