The first passenger car Tata Indica was launched in 1998
Ratan Tata launched the Tata Indica, the Tata Group’s first passenger car in 1998. This was 100 percent indigenous car. This car became extremely popular in the country. It broke all sales records. Within two years, this car became the number-1 car in its segment.
Bought the world’s second largest tea company
Under the leadership of Ratan Tata, the Tata Group acquired the Tetley Group, the world’s second largest tea manufacturing and distribution company, in 2000. Tetley Company was a British company. Tata Group company Tata Global Beverages deals in this segment.
Bought controlling stake in PSU
In 2002, the Tata Group acquired controlling stake in Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited. VSNL was established in 1986 and was the first Indian PSU to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
When TCS did wonders
In 2003, TCS was the first software company in India to cross the $1 billion mark in revenues. A year later, the company went public.
Tata Motors is listed on the New York Stock Exchange
In 2004, Tata Group’s automobile company Tata Motors was listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Apart from this, in the same year Tata Group acquired the heavy vehicle unit of Daewoo Motors.
Bought Europe’s second largest steel company
TATA STEEL, the steel company of the Tata Group under the leadership of Ratan Tata, acquired Corus, Europe’s second largest Anglo-Dutch steel company.
